Capacity is not cash.

Most AI ROI decks treat hours freed as dollars saved. CFOs know better. Here is the distinction Opswell uses on every page and lab.

When a finance team spends 2,000 hours a year on reconciliations, that work has a cost: loaded labor. Automating part of it returnscapacity — hours your people can put into analysis, the close, or growth work they were skipping. That capacity is real and measurable.

It is not automatically cash on the P&L. Cash shows up when you avoid a hire, redeploy people to revenue-producing work, catch leakage (duplicates, missed credits), or collect sooner. Until one of those happens, capacity is an operating fact — not a savings claim.

How we show the number

  • Team ballpark figures use about 3% of loaded labor for people in scope. Process labs, including the close, size a narrower slice and will show a larger number. See how to read our numbers.
  • Measured figures come only from a Snapshot on your own work.
  • Separate theses (working-capital timing, PE exit equity) are labeled as such. They are not the same as capacity.

If a vendor cannot tell you which of those three they are showing, they are selling a story. We would rather lose the deal than blur the math.
